Comme tant d'autres artistes regroupés au sein du label Grime Stone Records, Mossen invite dans son premier album éponyme à faire une ballade en forêt mais certainement pas dans un esprit de frivolité comique ou de romantisme pastoral. Le raw black metal lugubre de Mossen est très bruitiste et fait l'effet d'une chute dans un buis de ronces. Abysmal Specter, qui assure le chant, ne joue plus le rôle de bouffon comme on a pu souvent l'entendre mais de fantômes errant dans les bois. Un bon début !

J'avais dit que Fugitive Wizard se constituait sa propre cour dans Extorris Magus Chapter I, cela ne signifie pour autant que tout le monde y est bienvenu. A vrai dire, à l'écoute de ce second chapitre, j'ai plutôt l'impression que des panneaux "défense d'entrer" entourent son domaine et qu'il est prêt à lâcher les chiens — à moins que ce soit Tyrant qui grogne ? Le duo nous fait passer de riffs punks haineux à dungeon synth mélancoliques : bref, c'est le règne de la misanthropie. Efficace !

Pour Forest of Grief, son premier album, Old Nick décide de passer aux choses sérieuses : une pochette lugubre en nuances de gris chargée de symboles satanistes dessinée par un vrai graphiste, des thèmes mélancoliques et mortuaires à la pelle, et enfin un raw black metal médiéval. Mais pas de demi mesure chez Old Nick : les synthés ont le droit à leur quart d'heure de gloire. Accordéons, chiptune et effets en tous genres nous entraînent vers un passé ancien mais pas comme on s'y attend. Décalé !
